Completing side requests for the Merchant in the Resident Evil 4 remake is one of the best ways to earn Spinels and unlock valuable upgrades. One particularly tricky task that players encounter in Chapter 12 is the Jewel Thief request, which asks Leon to track down a valuable stolen gem. Finding the stolen jewel requires keen observation and a trip back to the castle courtyard.

Starting the Jewel Thief Request in Chapter 12

The Jewel Thief request becomes available near the start of Chapter 12 near the Ballroom area. Leon can pick up the blue note posted on the wall beside the elevator leading up toward the Clock Tower. The note explains that a mischievous crow stole a family heirloom and carried it off to its nest.

To fulfill the request, players must retrieve a Scratched Emerald and sell it back to the Merchant. Acquiring this special gemstone rewards players with three Spinels upon completing the transaction. It also provides a neat payout of five thousand Pesetas from the sale itself.

Locating the Crow Nest in the Courtyard

Finding the exact spot of the stolen treasure can be confusing because the castle courtyard features a vast hedge maze. However, the crow's nest is not actually hidden deep inside the maze paths. Instead, players should retrace their steps through the Grand Hall back into the main courtyard area.

Head toward the western side of the courtyard near the open roof area outside the Merchant's room. Look up toward the roof structures and archways above the central pathway. You will spot a small bird nest resting on the rooftop ledge marked with yellow paint.

How to Recover the Scratched Emerald

Once you locate the nest on the roof, draw any firearm and take a clean shot directly at it. Shooting the nest causes it to break apart and drop the Scratched Emerald to the stone floor below. Walk over to the fallen gem and interact with it to add the item to your inventory.

Be mindful of any remaining zealots or enemies patrolling the courtyard when searching the area. Taking out nearby hostile forces first ensures you can aim overhead without interruption. Once the gemstone is safely in your hands, you are ready to finalize the request.

Selling the Jewel to Complete the Quest

After picking up the Scratched Emerald, navigate to the nearest Merchant location. Open the trade menu and select the option to sell your collected treasures. Sell the gem for five thousand Pesetas to immediately complete the Jewel Thief request.

The Merchant will automatically award you three Spinels for completing this side objective. These Spinels can be exchanged for exclusive trade items like weapon attachments, treasure maps, and rare firearms. Taking the time to locate this hidden nest offers a quick and rewarding boost to your survival resources.
